Soft Machine are a British band who emerged from the Canterbury scene in the 1960s alongside Caravan and Gong. Starting out as a psychedelic rock act - sharing stages with Pink Floyd and Jimi Hendrix - they pivoted to jazz-rock by the end of the decade and became one of Europe's foremost jazz-fusion pioneers. The current lineup of John Etheridge (guitar), Theo Travis (saxophones, keyboards), Fred Baker (bass) and Asaf Sirkis (drums) released 'Other Doors' in 2023, their first studio album in five years.
A live recording of the concert in Albany (New York) from September 2024 was broadcast in March 2025 on WAMC Northeast Public Radio.
Soft Machine was nominated for best British prog band at the HRH Prog Awards 2025, together with Caravan, Gong and The Pineapple Thief.
The band released 'Other Doors' via Dyad Records - their first studio album in five years and also the last studio album with drummer John Marshall, who retired due to health issues.
Drummer Asaf Sirkis joined the band as successor to the legendary John Marshall.
