Soft Machine (UK) — Paradox, Tilburg

Soft Machine returns to Paradox in Tilburg. The British band emerged from the Canterbury scene - alongside contemporaries like Caravan, Gong and Kevin Ayers - and was early recognized as a driving force behind the psychedelic underground. In the past they shared the stage with Pink Floyd and Jimi Hendrix Experience.

The group started as a psychedelic rock band but shifted toward jazz in the late 1960s and has since been seen as a European pioneer of fusion. Over the years, musicians such as Andy Summers, Allan Holdsworth, Jack Bruce, Elton Dean, Hugh Hopper and Percy Jones passed through the ranks.

The current line-up features John Etheridge (electric guitar), Theo Travis (tenor & soprano saxophone, flute, Fender Rhodes, electronics), Fred Thelonious Baker (bass guitar) and Asaf Sirkis (drums, percussion). Their recent albums 'Thirteen' and 'Live in Los Angeles' - released to mark their 50th anniversary tour - topped the jazz/fusion charts on radio and streaming services.

'This isn't a nostalgia or revival band but a very vital unit, contemporary and alert, consistently humane, still capable of surprise and delight' - The Wire
