Ben van Gelder NY Quintet
NRC Handelsblad once called Ben van Gelder 'the boy wonder of Dutch jazz'. At seventeen, he moved to New York, where he spent nearly a decade working with musicians such as Mark Turner, Joe Sanders and Ambrose Akinmusire, developing his own voice as a soloist and composer.
His album Manifold (2023) was hailed by The New York Times as a remarkable release. Tonight he presents his latest composition The Whole Wide World Is Round at Paradox, with his NY Quintet: Jeff Ballard (drums, known from the Brad Mehldau Trio), Rick Rosato (double bass), Peter Schlamb (vibraphone) and Nelson Veras (guitar). Pianist Gideon van Gelder - also his brother - performs as a special guest. The visuals are by Várvara Tazelaar and Tony Roe.
'Everything is played with stunning control and precision, yet nowhere sounds pre-cooked.' - de Volkskrant
