About

Nelson Veras (Salvador de Bahia, 1977) is a Brazilian-French jazz guitarist who moved to Paris at fourteen and immediately made his mark with a televised performance alongside Pat Metheny. His playing weaves classical guitar technique, contemporary jazz and Brazilian roots into a style that is both highly personal and technically formidable. He won the Premio Visa of Brazilian Music in 1998 and released his debut leader album on Label Bleu in 2003, going on to collaborate with figures including Chet Baker, Stéphane Grappelli, Michel Petrucciani and Steve Coleman. Since the 2024-2025 academic year he has been a member of the teaching staff at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel.
