Pert Near Sandstone + The Lonesome Malones

Pert Near Sandstone is a modern string band from Minneapolis that has been a driving force in American Midwest roots music for over twenty years. They combine old-time instrumentation with contemporary songwriting and are known for their infectious joy in playing. With their own Midwestern take on traditional Appalachian sounds, they move in the same circles as Trampled By Turtles and Charlie Parr.

The Lonesome Malones grew out of spontaneous late-night jam sessions into a tight group united by a shared love of bluegrass tradition. Their sound is firmly rooted in American bluegrass, with tight harmonies and virtuoso playing on banjo, mandolin, guitar and upright bass. They perform both traditional numbers and original compositions.
