Dutch Baroque - Messiah

Handel's Messiah has been one of the most beloved works in music history for nearly three centuries. Famous choral movements such as "For unto us a Child is born" and the "Hallelujah" alternate with intimate solo moments - grand and festive where it can be, personal and moving where it must be.

The Dutch Baroque Orchestra performs this oratorio on authentic instruments, together with the Dutch Baroque Vocal Consort and several leading soloists. The concert also marks a premiere: conductor Gerard de Wit performs for the first time on stage his recently acquired Kroesbergen harpsichord, whose rich and distinctive sound provides the work with a special foundation.

From 19:00, Arie de Bruijn offers a free introduction for concert-goers about the background and significance of the Messiah - its structure, musical language, and how Handel brings the biblical texts to life. The hall doors close after the introduction begins.
