Messiah is the oratorio by Georg Friedrich Händel, composed in 1741 and first performed in Dublin in 1742. Structured in three parts, it draws on biblical texts to tell the story of Jesus Christ. The Hallelujah chorus, which closes the second part, is one of the most recognisable choral passages in all of classical music.
