Michael Varekamp Eclectic Band + The Groove Connection Project

On 26 May 1926, trumpeter Miles Davis was born. He reinvented himself and jazz repeatedly, inspired icons like Quincy Jones, Prince and Chaka Khan, and created groundbreaking albums such as Kind of Blue, Ascenseur Pour l'Échafaud, Bitches Brew and Tutu.

International renowned trumpeter Michael Varekamp fell under Miles' spell early on and devoted a significant part of his career to his legacy. He played in the band of Miles alumnus saxophonist Sonny Fortune, performed at Birdland and Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York, and shared the stage with Scott Hamilton, David Murray and Branford Marsalis. In Japan he received the Kobe Award for exceptional talent.

For Miles 100, Varekamp collaborates with keyboardist Wiboud Burkens, who worked with David Liebman - a saxophonist from Davis' circle. Michael Varekamp's Eclectic Band takes the audience through Miles' catalogue, featuring classics like So What and Tutu.
