Zjwieg — Poppodium Nieuwe Nor, Heerlen

Zjwieg hails from the western mining region of Sittard-Geleen and plays hard-hitting punk in the Limburgian dialect. The band formed in 2019 after singer Kris Riem and friends witnessed the dialect punk band Konstepaasje at a festival in Limbricht - what followed was a drunken decision to start their own band. What began as a joke has grown into one of the most distinctive voices in Limburgian pop music.

Their debut performance took place at Ernesto's in Sittard at three in the morning in 2019, and the audience refused to leave. They now have four albums to their name: Hub geer auch vlaai? (2020), Hub geer auch zoervleisj? (2020), Hub geer auch sjoes? (2024) and the new Hub geer auch nonvvotte? (2025).

The music combines punk, metal and jazz, with lyrics about Limburgian themes such as carnival, Limburgian independence and the TEFAF - but also about the long-awaited follow-up to their hit song 'Jeuk'. Titles like 'Riestevlaai', 'Kauw Sjottel' and 'André Rieu is unne wiekser' set the tone. Everything with a healthy dose of salt, but the pride in language and region is genuine.

Support comes from KALMAKE, a quartet from Roermond that has been making music for over two decades and sings everything in the Roermondian dialect. Starting as a small orchestra, now a pubescent outburst of four men who say they are already too old for the stage. Punk, heavy rock and related noise - all in the Roermondian dialect. Join us on 19 September.
