Nederlandse Bachvereniging - The Beauty of Difference
Zeeuwse Concertzaal, Middelburg
Artistic director Johanna Soller has curated this programme around a central idea: that contrasts need not exclude each other, but can actually strengthen one another.
She places Baroque works by J.S. Bach, J.C. Bach and Dietrich Buxtehude alongside Arvo Pärt's meditative Fratres - music spanning more than three centuries, yet exploring the same theme throughout. In Fratres this emerges most concretely: the notes c and c-sharp exist continuously alongside each other and grow, despite apparent friction, into a harmonious whole.
Soller plays the harpsichord and conducts the Nederlandse Bachvereniging. The soloists are soprano Carine Tinney, alto Alex Potter, tenor Guy Cutting and bass Matthias Winckhler.
