Jontavious Willis

The American blues musician returns to Middelburg following his performance at De Spot in early 2025. A newspaper once described him as "a 70-year-old bluesman in the body of a 20-year-old" - and it's true. From his first notes, it's clear an old soul inhabits him, playing pre-war acoustic blues with full conviction.

Willis moves effortlessly between country blues, ragtime, gospel and folk. Taj Mahal and Keb' Mo' count him among their fans - he also appeared as support on their joint TajMo tour. On his breakthrough album Spectacular Class from 2019, he sings it himself: 'You know the blues ain't dead, he just been takin' his rest.'
