Theatre of Hate + Skids — MEZZ, Breda

Theatre of Hate and Skids share the stage during a joint European tour. Both bands emerged from the punk and new wave scene and perform together at MEZZ in Breda.

Theatre of Hate was founded in 1980 by singer Kirk Brandon. The band's sound stood out early on thanks to saxophonist John 'Boy' Lennard's contributions. Their debut album 'Westworld' (1982), produced by Mick Jones (guitarist of The Clash), spent 21 weeks at number 1 on the independent charts. After breaking up in 1982, the musicians reunited for performances in the UK, America and Europe. The current line-up features Kirk Brandon, Stan Stammers, Chris Bell and Clive Osborne, performing both new material and classics.

Skids formed in 1977 in Scotland and quickly caught the attention of radio DJ John Peel. They opened for The Clash and signed to Virgin Records. Hits like 'Sweet Suburbia', 'The Saints are Coming' and 'Into the Valley' brought them a large following. Their debut album 'Scared to Dance' came out in 1979. After a period of silence, the band is back with Richard Jobson (vocals), Peter Byrchmore (guitar), Nick Hernandaz (drums) and Connor Whyte (guitar).
