Bombino

Omara 'Bombino' Moctar was born as Goumour Almoctar in a nomadic Tuareg camp near Agadez. He taught himself to play guitar by watching videos of Jimi Hendrix, Dire Straits, Ali Farka Touré and Tinariwen. His music combines traditional Berber rhythms with the energy of rock 'n' roll, with lyrics about peace and hope. The New York Times called him "The Sultan of Shred"; Keith Richards and Robert Plant count themselves among his fans.

While on tour in California, he recorded a desert blues version of the Rolling Stones classic "Hey Negrita" with his band Tidawt, alongside Keith Richards and Charlie Watts. In 2013 he broke through with his second album 'Nomad', produced by Dan Auerbach. His sixth album 'Deran' earned him his first-ever Grammy nomination for an artist from Niger.

On 12 November, he brings the sound of the Sahel region to MEZZ in Breda.
