WEVAL x TURF

Amsterdam's electronic duo Weval is known for melancholic, cinematic soundscapes and warm analogue productions. They've performed at festivals like Primavera and Pukkelpop, but with their latest album they take a completely different direction. On 27 November they come to MEZZ for an evening during TURF.

The starting point for their new album was the term 'chorophobia' - the fear of dancing. Weval realized they had always unconsciously held themselves back, and decided to let that go. The result is 'CHOROPHOBIA': their most extroverted and groove-driven record to date, inspired by a grainy iPhone photo of a friend DJing with one hand while eating a snack with the other. Expect faster BPMs, bold genre switches and a mix of acid, funk, bass and psychedelic pop.

Support comes from KROON, the project of bass producers Hajo Krijger, Kypski and Kubus. The three met in 2023 during Best Kept Secret's Secret Artist in Residence. After releasing their debut track 'Bentlye' (Vision Recordings), Hajo passed away at age 29. Kubus and Kypski continue his musical legacy: the debut album is finished and KROON now performs both together and solo on stage.

This concert is part of TURF, the city-wide festival in Breda on 26, 27 and 28 November, focused on electronic music, art, culture and tech.
