About
Samba Touré (born 15 June 1968 in Diré, Tombouctou Region) is a Malian guitarist, singer and composer rooted in the Songhaï music of northern Mali. He started out in the Bamako band Farafina Lolo before Ali Farka Touré took him under his wing and brought him on tour through Europe and the United States. Over the following decades he developed a voice of his own - socially engaged songs about everyday life in Mali, carried by sinuous guitar work and the rhythms of the River Niger. The Wire has called him 'the most prominent of Ali Farka Touré's musical heirs'.

Samba Touré released his new album Baarakelaw (The Workers) on January 24, 2025 via Glitterbeat Records, recorded in Bamako during an energy crisis with frequent power outages.

Songlines gave Baarakelaw four out of five stars and praised Touré's social commentary and his distinctive guitar playing, supported by ngoni, calabash and bass.

Samba Touré toured through the United Kingdom, Netherlands and Belgium in September and October 2025, with performances in, among others, The Hague (Paard) and Nijmegen (Doornroosje).

Touré's wife passed away during his European tour in 2023; the final track of Baarakelaw is a personal tribute to her.

With the album Binga, Samba Touré won the Best Artist of the Year award at the Songlines Music Awards 2021.
