Samba Touré: Ali Farka Touré songbook

Samba Touré returns to GROUNDS in Rotterdam for a special programme: twenty years after Ali Farka Touré's death, he pays tribute to his mentor.

Samba Touré began his career as a singer with Farafina Lolo, where Ali Farka Touré noticed his talent and took him under his wing. Under that guidance, Samba Touré moved towards more traditional music and became one of the leading West African musicians. Together with Djimé Sissoko (ngoni, tamani) and Souleymane Kane (kalebas), he performs major classics and lesser-known pieces from Ali Farka Touré's work - not as copies, but in his own distinctive style.
