On Sunday, 11 October 2026, SPOT Groningen and TivoliVredenburg present a new two-day music festival celebrating North African desert blues: the Imidiwan Festival.

Artists from the deserts of Algeria, Mauritania and Mali travel to the Netherlands to perform and share the stories behind their music and culture. The Groningen line-up features Imarhan, Samba Touré and Noura Mint Seymali.

Two decades after forming in the Algerian Sahara, Tuareg quintet Imarhan take their fourth album 'Essam' ('lightning' in Tamasheq) on the road - a record that for the first time pairs electronic textures with their signature desert grooves.

About: Samba Touré

Samba Touré is a Malian guitarist and singer who started out with the band Farafina Lolo before Ali Farka Touré spotted his talent and took him under his wing. That mentorship steered him toward traditional West African music, and he has since become one of the most distinctive voices in the desert blues tradition. His work is deeply rooted in the sounds of the Niger River region.
