Imidiwan Festival Groningen
Two-day festival of North African desert blues from Algeria, Mauritania and Mali, featuring artists like Imarhan, Samba Touré and Noura Mint Seymali.
Noura Mint Seymali is a Mauritanian singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who fuses the classical Moorish griot tradition with psychedelic rock and contemporary rhythms. She comes from a musical dynasty: her father Seymali Ould Ahmed Vall devised the first notation system for Moorish melodies, and her stepmother Dimi Mint Abba was Mauritania's most celebrated singer. Starting out at thirteen as a backing vocalist for Dimi, she also mastered the ardin, a nine-stringed harp reserved for women. Together with her husband, guitarist Jeiche Ould Chighaly, she brings Mauritanian music to stages across the world.
Noura Mint Seymali performed in July 2026 at the WOMAD festival and at the Jazz Café in London, as part of a British tour.
On 4 July 2026 she performed at the Openluchttheater Hertme in the Netherlands.
On 7 November 2025 Yenbett was released via Glitterbeat Records, her first studio album in nine years, recorded in her hometown Nouakchott.
In August 2025 it was announced that Noura Mint Seymali receives the WOMEX Artist Award 2025, one of the highest honors in world music.
On 26 October 2025 she received the WOMEX Artist Award in person during the annual WOMEX conference in Tampere, Finland.
