Club Classique & Abdelkader Benali - Café Kaváfis
Theater De Verbeelding, Purmerend
On Saturday, 20 February at 20:00, writer Abdelkader Benali and violinist-theatre maker Myrthe Helder present Café Kaváfis at Theater De Verbeelding, together with musicians from Orchestre Partout.
The café of the title is an imaginary meeting place on the Mediterranean, where travellers from Genoa, Aleppo, Tangier, Crete, Amsterdam, Granada and Beirut come together. No one is asked about their destination or origin. The arak flows, the music sounds, and the stories begin - about war and love, mass tourism, ancient civilizations and a future that could go in any direction.
Theaterkrant wrote about Myrthe Helder: "Violinist Myrthe Helder provides each part of this performance with fitting musical accompaniment, virtuosic at times (...), atmospheric, dramatic, ironic where needed, (...) with her symphonic solo performance as the highlight."
Concept, text & performance: Myrthe Helder and Abdelkader Benali. Direction: Naomi van der Linden.
