Flip Noorman

Alpha males beat their chests, the language of war hangs in the air, and the law of the jungle seems to reign. Are humans ultimately nothing more than chimpanzees with machine guns and drones, or is there still hope? Flip Noorman seeks the answer in the overlooked sister species of humans and chimpanzees: the bonobo - the 'make-love-not-war hippie ape' where women hold power and conflicts are resolved through sex.

In this new theatrical concert, Noorman, assisted by the Noormannen and -vrouw, settles accounts with the cultural myth of the survival of the fittest. He sketches a world in which human nature is actually empathetic and peace-loving - perhaps against all odds. The programme is also a tribute to the late American-Dutch primatologist Frans de Waal, to Jane Goodall, and to Flip's own mother, the matriarch of a household full of men, who recently passed away after 35 years of chronic illness.

Noorman's previous production 'Animal Farm' was selected for the Cabaret Collection of the Dutch Theatre Festival and was nominated for the Poelifinario Kleinkunst award.
