In the 1950s and 1960s, Johnny Cash rose from cotton picker's son to superstar with his own television show. He was a born storyteller, but he didn't always stick closely to the truth.
In the performance The True Johnny Cash, singer and guitarist Joost Botman tells the story of 'The Man in Black': a life full of contradictions, with drug use and religion, patriotism and arrogance, a family man with a fascination for dark themes. Botman does this in an engaging and sometimes wry manner, accompanied by guitarist Jos Kolenberg.
Botman is known for a music theatre programme about Simon & Garfunkel, with which he toured the country for five years.
