A Final Act of Love - Schuur

A Final Act of Love is a theatre performance based on the final days of Ken Saro-Wiwa: writer, activist and symbol of peaceful resistance. From his cell, he continued to write and speak out against injustice, exploitation and the devastating impact of the oil industry on the Ogoni community in Nigeria.

Bright Richards brings this story of courage, dignity and the power of words. Personal and political, intimate and urgent - the performance raises questions that remain relevant today: about climate justice, exploitation and the price of speaking when silence would be safer.

The Nederlands Blazers Ensemble provides the musical accompaniment, inspired by Pergolesi's Stabat Mater. Stories and music from the Ogoni community - still living in exile in Benin - also contribute to the performance.
