The Good Example

Vlamousse returns with a sharp, musical show about motherhood. Brigitte van Bakel and Maya van As take the stage as new mothers with two completely different stories: one followed the traditional path with her husband, the other pioneered a rainbow family through insemination as a queer woman. Yet they share the same conclusion - the child itself is wonderful, but everything surrounding it is a complete disillusionment.

Growing up in the 1990s on romantic comedies about painless births, naturally conceived children, and men constantly sighing about how beautiful you are, they were fed a lie. It's time for a good example, so no one enters parenthood so unprepared.

In The Good Example, they take aim at the reality of young mothers: the childbirth class that claimed your body was made for giving birth, the idea that breastfeeding is a painless gift of nature, and the belief that you can only be a real mother if you've given birth yourself. The show is musical and razor-sharp, aimed at new mothers, pregnant mothers, queer mothers, non-biological mothers, fathers, and the childless who enjoy a bit of schadenfreude.
