Dayna Kurtz and Robert Maché
Dayna Kurtz is an American singer-songwriter who has been touring intensively for years. Her voice - warm, powerful and intense - is often compared to Nina Simone, Marianne Faithfull and Jeff Buckley. Her slide guitar playing is equally impressive. She comes to Popuppodium with her longtime accompanist Robert Maché, a guitarist and mandolin player and a sought-after instrumentalist in the American roots and Americana scene.
Since her breakthrough in 2003, Kurtz has maintained a special connection with the Netherlands, where she has built a loyal fanbase and regularly plays sold-out venues. She has performed with Elvis Costello, Richard Thompson, Rufus Wainwright, BB King and Norah Jones.
De Volkskrant wrote about her: "The finest performance comes from American singer-songwriter Dayna Kurtz. Her voice is heavy and slightly dark, sometimes harsh and mean. Sparsely accompanied by her own acoustic guitar and the bright Telecaster of sidekick Robert Maché, Kurtz turns her soul-wrenching 'It's How You Hold Me' into a real tearjerker. Incomparable!"
