Rhiannon Giddens (born 1977, Greensboro, North Carolina) is an American singer, multi-instrumentalist and composer who has made it her life's work to recover and celebrate the African American roots of folk, old-time and blues music. She rose to prominence as a founding member of the Carolina Chocolate Drops, then built a wide-ranging solo career that spans the Pulitzer Prize-winning opera Omar, Grammy-winning folk albums and her role as Artistic Director of the Yo-Yo Ma-founded Silkroad Ensemble.
