Steve Earle (born January 17, 1955, in Fort Monroe, Virginia) is an American singer-songwriter who grew up in San Antonio, Texas. His 1986 debut Guitar Town launched a career that has consistently blurred the lines between country, rock, and folk, with 'Copperhead Road' (1988) his most enduring signature song. A three-time Grammy winner, he was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in September 2025 - the first artist to join during the venue's centennial year. He is also a published novelist, actor, and outspoken social activist.
