Teckel - Nina Van Tongeren, Theater Bellevue

Teckel is a monologue by Theater Bellevue that, following Gisèle Pelicot's example, returns shame to the perpetrator - and to the bystanders who deliberately look away. A young woman struggles with the question of what to do when you carry a story that no one wants to hear. Accompanied by teenage music from the 2010s, two lawyers and a number of everyday heroes, she searches for an answer.

The makers are candid about what they do: "Teckel is a performance about a word we cannot use, otherwise you won't come. At least, that's what we think, because all books, films and performances about abuse carefully avoid the word on the back cover or in the press release, otherwise no one would be interested. So we follow their example, because we have a story and really need someone willing to listen. That's why Teckel is about Stanley Kubrick, Wicked the musical and which dog breeds are or aren't nice. Nothing else. Promise."

Jatou Sumbunu is nominated for a Louis d'Or (Most impressive acting performance). From the jury report: "Jatou Sumbunu forces you to stay with the story and to experience somewhat as a spectator the torment the character goes through."
