Manu van Kersbergen brings his performance 'The Rediscovery of Heaven' to BIRD on 4 November. Spoken word, theatre, jazz, hip-hop and heavy basslines interweave - personal, sharp and direct.
Starting from the perspective of a father trying to explain to his children what is happening in the world, he addresses themes of identity, racism, conflict and connection. Not a preachy theatre evening, but words that land because they feel genuine. Live construction of beats, poetry and improvisation layered together - sometimes uplifting, sometimes abrasive.
The performance was nominated for the Theo d'Or 2025 and the Annie M.G. Schmidt Prize 2025, and previously appeared at North Sea Jazz Festival, the Dutch Theatre Festival and Theatre Festival Belgium.
"Like a beacon of light, Van Kersbergen knows how to comfort you again and again with his emotional texts, self-reflection and deep voice."
