Orkater de Nieuwkomers/Marie-Mae van Zuilen - Dolorosa

What happens when you try to see the human behind an unforgivable act? In Dolorosa, the main character journeys through the seasons of forgiveness over the course of a year - seeking how to let someone go and allow another in. It is a musical quest for humanity.

Actress, soprano and theatre maker Marie-Mae van Zuilen draws from classical music and is accompanied by a five-member male choir. Together they sing themselves free from entrenched roles and patterns of victim and perpetrator.

With Dolorosa, Marie-Mae van Zuilen completes her trilogy about trauma following sexual violence - after Dreaming and The 7 Rooms. It is her first full-length production and her debut as a Newcomer at Orkater.
