Tom Lanoye - ReinAard the Solo
Theater De Verbeelding, Purmerend
Behoud de Begeerte and Tom Lanoye present ReinAard - the solo, a literary theatre performance on Animal Day, Sunday 4 October at 15:00.
Frits van Oostrom, renowned Reynaert scholar, wrote in the Volkskrant: "ReinAard is a small miracle: faithful to the spirit of 'Willem die Madocke maecte', yet entirely Lanoye." He expressed hope that the author would bring his text to the stage himself - and that wish has been granted. Tom Lanoye now tours with this full-length verbal tour de force, based on his bestseller ReinAard. He needs nothing more than his voice, a bottle of water and a microphone.
The performance balances between the sublime and the mundane, the witty and the cruel, sonorous Dutch and colloquial Dunglish. Humo described the fox as "a superior rogue whose age-old tricks strikingly illustrate how populism works." The text won both the Gerrit Komrij Prize and a Humo's Pop Poll medal ('Best book of 2025').
What the press wrote - Parool: "Spectacular: hypermodern, rousing and witty." Het Nieuwblad **: "Masterful literary makeover." De Standaard : "Whirling and downright impressive." Humo **: "Delightfully subversive and bawdy." Frits Spits in De taalstaat: "What Lanoye does with the fox borders on the incredible: gripping and passionate, yet stripped of all sentimentality... Everyone should embrace this ReinAard."
After the performance, the book is available for purchase; Tom Lanoye will sign copies.
