Tom Lanoye is a Belgian Flemish writer and theatre maker, born in 1958 in Sint-Niklaas. He started out as a poet in the 1980s and went on to become one of the most versatile voices in Dutch-language literature, with novels, plays and columns to his name. His adaptation of Shakespeare's history plays, *Mamma Medea* and the novel *ReinAard* are among his best-known works.
