Smells Like Nirvana + Them Bones: Unplugged

Kurt Cobain of Nirvana and Layne Staley of Alice In Chains both died on April 5 - Kurt in 1994, Layne in 2002. On April 10, this is not a cause for celebration, but rather an evening to reflect on their music: two bands recreate the MTV Unplugged sessions that are considered among the most legendary acoustic performances of the 1990s.

Smells Like Nirvana performs the set from Nirvana's MTV Unplugged In New York, the album that became their best-selling release after Nevermind. Them Bones takes on the Alice In Chains session - a performance that gained extra weight in retrospect, as Layne Staley would only play four more regular concerts with the band after that.

The evening is set up entirely in style, with decor and staging inspired by the original MTV Unplugged sessions. Songs that normally blasted from amplifiers sound intimate, vulnerable, and sometimes haunting here - grunge without the electric storm, but no less raw.
