De broers van Arkel

Everyone grows older, but not everyone grows up. The brothers van Arkel are working on it. Their father, the minister, has retired - now it's their turn to become someone. Someone with a vision, a plan, their own coffee maker, matching tea towels, insoles and a 12-piece screwdriver set. Someone who does the weekly shopping every Saturday, doesn't doubt everything so much, doesn't constantly have to outdo his brother. Someone you say "you" to without realizing it.

Jeroen and Martijn van Arkel are brothers, theatre makers and finalists of the Amsterdam Kleinkunst Festival 2025. Jeroen studied as an actor at the Utrecht School of the Arts, Martijn as a writer. In their first full-length production Say You, they combine their strengths: a dry-comic performance full of absurdity and unexpected poetry, about two completely different brothers searching for each other, for manhood, for the best juice centrifuge and something to believe in.

The press was enthusiastic: the Volkskrant called it "a well-rehearsed comic duo" with "the hardest laughs", NRC wrote that "the best jokes are often in seemingly small things" and the jury described their performance as "charming" and "theatrically well thought out". Direction: Pepijn Cladder.
