Tres Ríos

Tres Ríos is a collective of four musicians from Mexico and Spain, led by multi-instrumentalist Leonardo Prieto. They perform son jarocho, a musical tradition from the Veracruz region in Mexico that emerged from a blend of African, Spanish, and indigenous influences during the colonial period. The lyrics explore the nature, myths, and daily life of Veracruz - sometimes melancholic, sometimes energetic.

The ensemble uses traditional Mexican string instruments such as the jarana, leona, and requinto, complemented by zapateado (rhythmic tap dance), percussion, violin, and double bass. Tres Ríos is the first son jarocho ensemble based in the Netherlands.
