Piano Recital by Maria Nemtsova

Maria Nemtsova is a concert pianist who has performed at Carnegie Hall (New York), Wigmore Hall, Kings Place and the Queen Elisabeth Hall (London), the Ehrbar Saal in Vienna, and the National Center of Performing Arts in Beijing. Born in Moscow, she began violin and piano at age five. She studied at the Tchaikovsky College of Music and the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatoire, earned her Post Graduate Diploma in Music cum laude from the Royal College of Music in London, and completed studies at the Accademia Pianistica in Italy and Trinity Laban Conservatory in London. She has received multiple awards at international competitions, both for solo piano and chamber music.

In this solo recital, she performs works by composers from different centuries and traditions: Domenico Scarlatti (1685-1757), Jean-Philippe Rameau (1683-1764), Henry Purcell (1659-1695), Sergei Rachmaninoff (1873-1943), Valentyn Silvestrov (1937-) and Edison Denisov (1929-1996).

Her programme has a personal background. In late February 2022, Maria was in Moscow when Russia invaded Ukraine. For her partner, who grew up in the capital of Crimea, this was especially painful. On a visa they had obtained a month earlier, they fled with their young family to the Netherlands. Her repertoire includes music by exiled Russian composers and works by Ukrainian composers - a choice that is far more than programmatic for her.

In 2011, Maria co-founded the "Music for Peace" project, a charitable initiative that organizes concerts and masterclasses for young musicians in active conflict zones, aiming to bring together people from different backgrounds and social classes through music.
