The Third Man, 1949 film noir

De Cultuurschuur screens The Third Man (1949), the film noir directed by Carol Reed, starring Joseph Cotten and Alida Valli. The screenplay is by Graham Greene.

The story unfolds in post-war Vienna: a shattered city plagued by shortages of everything, including penicillin. Holly Martins travels there at the invitation of his friend Harry Lime, only to arrive and learn that Harry has died in an accident. Questions quickly arise about the circumstances of that accident, and Holly begins his own investigation.
