Hamnet

Hamnet (2025) is an intimate historical drama directed by Chloé Zhao, starring Jessie Buckley, Emily Watson and Paul Mescal. The film won four Oscars.

Based on Maggie O'Farrell's novel of the same name, the story follows Agnes - an independent woman with knowledge of herbs and healing - and her marriage to William Shakespeare. At its heart is the loss of their eleven-year-old son Hamnet, who dies of the plague. Not a classical biopic, but a restrained, emotionally charged tale about motherhood, loss and the transformative power of art.
