Gilles Peterson started as a teenager on pirate radio in London and became one of the founders of acid jazz - a genre he helped shape with a sound and style that remain instantly recognizable decades later. His annual Worldwide Festival in the French city of Sète, his record labels Talkin' Loud and Brownwood Recordings, and his DJ sets and radio programmes - featuring music from soul and jazz to funk, South America, the Middle East, Africa and Asia - showcase a breadth and taste few DJs can match.
