Femke Smit & Mike del Ferro
On Thursday 3 December, singer Femke Smit and pianist Mike del Ferro take the stage at De oude Mattheus in Eibergen. Together they present Sintonia, a programme of Brazilian music inspired by bossanova, choro and samba.
Smit and Del Ferro met in Rio de Janeiro, where their shared love of Brazilian music quickly led to a collaboration. Both have classical roots - they are children of opera singers - and a strong background in jazz and improvisation.
In Sintonia they perform well-known and lesser-known pieces by composers such as Antonio Carlos Jobim, Milton Nascimento and Chico Buarque. The Portuguese lyrics are not understandable to everyone, but the emotional power of the music certainly is. Femke Smit is known for her authentic Portuguese singing; Mike del Ferro - for many years the regular pianist of Toots Thielemans - is praised worldwide for his lyrical playing.
