Singer Linda Vink and pianist Duco Burgers take you to the Europe of the interwar years: a world on edge, where art is not decoration but a weapon. A time when artists were branded "degenerate" and forced to flee for their critical voice. The work of Bertolt Brecht and his contemporaries Kurt Weill and Hanns Eisler sounds as it was meant to: direct, ironic, with an unflinching gaze at the lives of the oppressed.

This music seeks conflict and demands a stance. It is refined yet brutal, sensitive yet coldly detached. Brecht treads on sore toes and charms - and that very tension makes his work both beloved and viscerally rejected. What was written nearly a century ago remains painfully relevant today.

The programme includes repertoire from The Threepenny Opera, Happy End and The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny, alongside lesser-known works and individual songs that may evoke memories of the legendary performances by Lotte Lenya.
