En Suite | Theater Tieret
De Gelderlandfabriek, Culemborg
At Residentie Avondrust, Anna, the oldest resident, turns 100. No visitors, no commotion - in her mind, a deafening silence has reigned for years, her gaze fixed on infinity. All that remains is waiting: for her weekly walk, for one last dance. Until a single wondrous sound splits open an entire life.
EN SUITE weaves Johann Sebastian Bach's cello suites into a poetic puppet theatre story about beauty and transience, acceptance and farewell. Direction and scenario by Joost Van den Branden, cello performed by Pieter-Jan De Smet. De Smet plays the Bach suites in the 'manuscript version', returning to the original score. Puppet manipulation coaching: Neville Tranter (Australia). Music coaching: Anssi Karttunen (Finland). Additional collaborators: Steven Bosmans (technical), Patrick Maillard (puppets), Heidelinde Vereecke (costumes) and Christophe Ameye (final direction).
The production is a co-production with Per Podium, supported by the Flemish Community, CC Sint-Niklaas and the Tax Shelter measure of the Belgian Federal Government.
Press reviews: "In En Suite, Van den Branden has found his own style, and knows how to bring his story to the stage convincingly and charismatically. As a spectator and listener, you get concert and theatre performance in one evening." (Theaterkrant) - "Venom, humour and stillness mark this beautiful performance." - "Beautiful music, top-notch acting, magnificent puppets, poignantly good jokes and more layers than a good croissant."
