Iain Matthews & Egbert Derix
Iain Matthews and Egbert Derix take the stage together with a programme centred on songs and stories. Matthews' distinctive voice and Derix's lyrical piano playing meet in a repertoire spanning folk, roots, singer-songwriter and subtle jazz influences. Their interplay is open and natural - two seasoned musicians giving each other space and reaching the heart of each song.
Matthews is no stranger to De Amer's audience: over the years he has performed on its stage several times. As co-founder of Fairport Convention, he played a key role in British folk-rock of the late 1960s. With Matthews Southern Comfort he scored an international hit with 'Woodstock', followed by projects such as Plainsong and a solo career now spanning more than five decades.
Egbert Derix is a pianist and composer who moves between jazz, classical, pop and improvised music in his work. He has collaborated with artists including Eric Vloeimans, Fish and John Helliwell, and performed with various orchestras and ensembles. His playing is known for technical finesse, melodic richness and a feel for nuance.
The music of Matthews and Derix calls for attention and a willingness to listen - and in the intimate setting of De Amer, where the distance between artist and audience is small, their interplay comes fully into its own.
