About

Songhoy Blues are a desert blues band from Bamako, Mali, formed by musicians who fled northern Mali after jihadist groups banned music there. The four-piece - Aliou Touré (vocals), Garba Touré (guitar), Oumar Touré (bass) and Nathanael Dembélé (drums) - weaves Songhoy pentatonic scales into rock-driven rhythms, a style once dubbed 'Timbuktu Punk'. Collaborations with Damon Albarn, Iggy Pop and Nick Zinner, a slot on Glastonbury's Pyramid Stage, and roles as WaterAid ambassadors have cemented their international standing. Their fourth album, Héritage (2025), marks a more acoustic turn, drawing on musical traditions from across Mali.
