About

Solex is the stage name of Elisabeth Esselink (Delft, 1965), an Amsterdam-based musician and producer who started out as co-owner of a record shop in the city's red-light district. She built her distinctive lo-fi sound from samples of unsellable records, TV audio and secretly taped live performances, landing somewhere between indie rock, electronica and sound collage. Her debut 'Solex vs. the Hitmeister' (Matador, 1998) drew international attention and was later ranked among the best trip-hop albums of all time by Fact magazine.
