Edwin Winkels' Spain

In Spain, hypermodern trains race through the desert at 300 kilometers per hour, while ancient local trains take an hour to cover 30 kilometers of mountains and valleys. Shops close between two and five for lunch and siesta, at eight in the evening everyone is out on the street, popular TV programmes lasting three hours end well after midnight, and the next morning the shops don't open until ten.

Edwin Winkels has lived and worked there for 35 years as a writer, journalist and correspondent - and is arguably the Dutchman who knows best how different Spain is from the Netherlands. During this theatre evening, he stands as it were at the bar of a tapas bar: improvising, full of personal experiences, remarkable encounters and entertaining anecdotes. From dictator Franco to Johan Cruijff, from spaghetti westerns to acorn ham.
