"Elisabeth" by Musical C-group Theaterschool Landgraaf
Theater Landgraaf, Landgraaf · € 8,50
The musical C-group from Theaterschool Landgraaf performs the musical 'Elisabeth', about the life of Austrian Empress Elisabeth. Performances Saturday and Sunday at 19:00. Admission: € 8,50.
Elisabeth was regarded as a style icon - comparable to Princess Diana - and has been the subject of countless films, documentaries and books. The musical asks the question who she really was: did she live a fairy-tale life, or was Sissi in reality a tragic figure, prisoner of rigid court ceremony?
The story follows Elisabeth from her marriage to Emperor Franz Joseph, through which she becomes Empress of Austria at a young age. Their love is tested by the interference of Archduchess Sophie, the Emperor's mother, but above all by life itself. Elisabeth fights to remain herself - and pays a high price for it. She lived from 1837 to 1898 and was murdered at age 60 by Italian anarchist Luigi Lucheni.
The twelve students of the musical C-group perform a production that is normally executed by a professional cast of at least twice as many performers. Student Caprice plays the role of young Elisabeth; student Anke plays the 'old' Elisabeth.
