Bambie - Bambie Plays Bambi

Mime theatre group Bambie presents on Saturday 13 March at 20:00 the performance "Bambie Plays Bambi - Ode to Loneliness".

It was a logical step: a performance about the little deer the group is named after. But the two Bambis are worlds apart. The Disney version grows up in an idyllic forest full of talking animal friends, finds love and becomes a father himself. In the original 1923 book by Austrian writer Felix Salten, Bambi remains alone - nature is cruel, and survival means learning to rely on yourself.

In their absurdist and emotionally charged theatrical language, Bambie contrasts Disney's romanticism with Salten's realism. Iconic film scenes, such as Bambi's birth and the slippery ice scene, receive a new interpretation. Three individuals search for a personal answer to the question of what our 'natural' destiny is, and what life lessons are needed to grow up in these times.
