Femke Arnouts - The Waking of Wanda
Theater De Verbeelding, Purmerend
On Saturday, 14 November at 20:00, Theater De Verbeelding presents "The Waking of Wanda" - the directorial debut of Femke Arnouts, starring Carly Wijs and Nanette Edens.
Wanda discovers one day that she has become invisible. When she reluctantly visits her GP with the feeling that no one notices her anymore, she is dryly told that this is quite plausible given her age and that she might as well not resist it. But Wanda does resist. The production asks whether it is a liberation when you no longer have to meet external expectations, or whether life feels empty when you are no longer anyone in relation to another.
"The Waking of Wanda" is not a production about motherhood or menopause, but an absurdist, visual and affectionate story about the ageing woman who refuses to accept her invisibility.
