Friday Performance - sauna evening

After a residency at Buitenplaats Brienenoord, performers Aisha Hetzel and Lío Spinnewijn, together with composer Sophia Bardoutsou, present a work in progress: Can you carry me? The piece tells the story of sticky resin seeping from pine trees. The performers climb ropes, trees and each other, relying on that stickiness for their grip - but the forests where this resin comes from are currently burning across Europe. Beneath layers of ash, stories of oppression and exhaustion emerge. Can you carry me? is a rehearsal in carrying invisible weight: stories from dying forests, passed on in sticky hands.

Lío Spinnewijn (2000) is a performance artist and researcher. They graduated in 2023 with an honours bachelor in Fine Arts from the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam and are currently pursuing a master's degree in Art Praxis at DAI.

Aisha Hetzel (2000) is a circus artist. She graduated in 2024 from Codarts Circus Arts in Rotterdam and is now based in Brussels. She specializes in aerial rope, with a personal style combining static and bungee rope techniques.

Sophia Bardoutsou (1996) is a composer, researcher and teacher who approaches composition as a social practice. She is currently a doctoral candidate at Codarts University for the Arts in Rotterdam.

During this evening, the Common Bread Sauna by visual artist Steven Jouwersma will also be heated. The wood-fired sauna accommodates a maximum of 12 people at a time - clothed or unclothed - and has an oven on the outside where pizzas are baked. The ingredients are provided; making and sharing with the other guests is up to you.

Performance: 20:00
During the performance the sauna is closed; afterwards it reopens until 22:00 at the latest.
