Champagne

The Cultuurschuur opens the new season with Champagne, the Dutch cinema hit of the year. Directed by Tim Kamps and starring Leo Alkemade and Guus Stapel.

When Maarten learns that his father Hans is terminally ill, he takes him on a trip to the Champagne region. The highlight of the journey is a ride on the little train through the wine cellars of Epernay - for the wine-loving Hans, a kind of trip to heaven. Maarten's wife Loes and his mother Sophie wave the two off, but after just two streets it becomes clear that father and son are probably the least suitable candidates ever for a bonding trip.
